Make Music Not War is the latest project of Cultures of Resistance, a new initiative that promotes peace with justice through education, communication, and political engagement. Grounded in the universal principles of human rights, Make Music Not War promotes the preservation of indigenous musical traditions, as well as the use of music to foster dialogue and oppose war and oppression. The project was launched at the Musica 2 Festival, which took place in Beirut, Lebanon December 1-16, 2006.

Other projects from Cultures of Resistance include Make Films Not War and Make Food Not War. The former draws on the unique vision of the international film community to bridge political, religious, and ethnic divides. The food project highlights the importance of sustainable food systems, food access, and a shared culture of food in conflict prevention and resolution.
